If Only Life Were This Simple

(Originally August 4, 2005)

[[A Psalm of David.]] LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

[He that] backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. [He that] sweareth to [his own] hurt, and changeth not.

[He that] putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these [things] shall never be moved.

Psalm 15

The Bible has a lot more to say about what it takes to live righteously. In fact, there's an entire New Testament, what with the Christ and His sacrifice and grace and whatnot, (for those of who believe). The way I understand it, Grace and Christ makes being righteous a bunch easier because it's no longer what WE have to do, but it's all in what He did. At least, that's how I've heard it explained.

For instance;
"Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Rom 10:4 For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
"

Yet it also seems that you have to do something too--you have to take an active part in trying to be righteous;
"Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
"

I'm going to trust that God has patience enough to let me figure out the whats and hows. Because, you know, He knows stuff.
