They got married a few weeks ago. Yay! It gives me something to post about today!
So when I first discovered Fringes, her boyfriend was a guy who wore flip-flops to her posh family's Thankgiving Dinner, named Q. He drove 650 (a two-way trip) within Texas to go see her on the weekends and make sweet sweet nookie. When I ascertained Q's whiteness through his use of flip-flops, I fell in love with the both of them. It seemed as though this boy fell in love with this girl fo' realz! He disregarded the color line, he disregarded the inner gushings of a blogger who spoke both the bad as vividly as the good, he disregarded (or more better, accepted) her two children, and he disregarded the miles between them.
That is some serious love right there.
And now they are married and he's moved in and they're giving birth in 4.5 months to the next Barack Obama.
Who says the interwebs ain't bringing people together?

Fellow Matchedeers
I got a hit from someone doing a search on Google Blogs for "Match.Com". I thought it was a good idea. So I followed their search and saw what they saw. I want to post the links here. The stories are fascinating. I'll probably leave some Comments at some of the blogs as well. Shucks, we're all in this sauce together, after all...
Ned; I left a comment.
LisaQ; She tells a troubling tale. Is in Kansas.
Not so happy.
A Work In Progress; Seems like she's looking at some success. (Last paragraph)
Kelly; More success! With a Match date AND with lymphoma recovery! God bless her!
Devvdev; Their Current mood: hopeful, followed by more supportive facts.
Cooper Abby; Quoting a "Kathryn B. Lord". I can't tell if Cooper is male or female, and if it were she/he who met their husband Drew on Match in 1998, or Kathryn. Either way, the article makes good sense. Particularly this snippet;
"Either you have been doing something (singles events, let’s say, or trying to let others know that you are interested) or you have been doing nothing. “Something” is more likely to have results than “nothing,” but neither have “worked” in that you haven’t gotten a mate yet, or you wouldn’t be asking the question “Does Internet dating work?”
"So let’s redefine “work.” What Internet dating does better than any other method I know is that it exposes you to a very large group of other singles and helps you sort them into the likeliest category for potential partnerhood with you. How well does “doing nothing” compare with that? For that matter, how well does “doing something” other than Internet dating compare? "
A Happy Cynic; At first I was offended (her blog title isn't the best encouragement), but I figured if I wrote as badly as the Match ads that she's cited, then I'd have to laugh at my own self. I left her a comment and kept on steppin'. :-)
Marcus; Not actually about Match at all, but sidesplittingly funny. Yup. Gotta learn to laugh at myself going into all this because I'm putting my cakes out there on the line now. This blog has been a warm-up for that, but you guys have been extraordinarily supportive, and dare I say loving to me in your ride-a-longs. I have to gear up for more rejection and possibly some ridicule. I might have to blubber and boo-hoo back here for a bit, but I trust you guys will send me back out with a hug?
Whoopsie; Now HERE'S a success story! 3200 views since January!!! And she. like so many of you, writes like a house afire. I left more than just a comment and I'm bookmarking her site. I highly recommend! Nevertheless, her Matchness hadn't much to say on the 'Net dating experience in that post.
So, this is me, handling the vague stress-ish adventure of Re-Matchedeering. I hope I don't get raped...

Blog Solidarity
I did my blog rounds and checked out the ennui that is creeping up on two of my blogmates.
Scott, you do you. I'd read a shopping list written by you. But every unwritten blog page is a block of time you've given to your wife, sons, livelihood, or passion. I can't be mad at that.
:-)
S* shared about her mother who has become debilitated by multiple sclerosis, and I was so moved. Littlewing commented with the exact words that I was inclined to use (so I didn't leave a comment at all. I was late in the reading of it anyway and everyone there had already said great things) and because like littlewing, my heart breaks for that situation. It resonates with the experience I had with my Mom--watching her deteriorate and being helpless during.
And there's also so nothing adequate to say. I can offer solidarity and compassion, and an open comment line extended (which, in fact, I do). But the mourning must go on until it does its' work. This I know. And the pain is unique in every case. And there are 6 billion cases, because there are 6 billion people, and we all experience loss as a matter of existence on this planet.
It sucks.
And so I wish you love, and comfort, and friends -- for you and your Mom, S*.

Coming And Going
The Adult Hero, who I mentioned before, has signed off from his blog and bid everyone goodbye. He stated that he had finished his divorce and was helped mightily by all the commentors, so he thanked everyone and said he was moving on into dating, and he didn't want to blog about it.
So that's that with him and I wish him a happy life.
Then I realized that I had followed a link from his place to a blog from a 29 yr-old woman of color who lives in NYC. I had bopped by her place in February and was immediately chased away by her frank language and explicit lifestyle details. Yet, this was one of the exact things that made me want to stay at The Adult Hero's blog--the frank language and explicit details. Coming from a guy must have made it palatable to me. Coming from a female, a black one no less, made it seem scary.
That's totally my own baggage. What I want in a guy I totally freak out from in a woman. Guys, masculine and raw. Gals, demure, shy, kind. Viva la difference!
Having said that, I went on a full immersion into her blog. A disclaimer here and now; I have not fallen in love with said blogger, nor do I pine for her. Attracted, heck yes, but I know enough about me to know that I'd not last for a solid half hour with her. Not only would I be too unnerved to be my usual cool and witty self, but I wouldn't be enough of a man for her in the longterm. In fact, the kind of men she is attracted to (and currently in a four month relationship with, meeting his parents and whatnot) are the same type of men that I'M attracted to. And when I say "I'm attracted" to them, I mean what I always mean--I want to BE this type of man, I'm sexually inspired by this type of man, I idolize this type of man.
Anyway, what am I saying?
At the gym today, I saw for the second day in a row, a woman who looks very much like my ex-girlfriend. She is as short and as solid and athletic as my ex. And her face looks like my ex's face. This girl at the gym seems to have my personality too. She doesn't talk to anyone while she's about her business. Not being a chatty attention-sponge actually winds up getting my attention. That and she's one of about three black women I've ever seen in that gym since I joined last year, a distinction that she and I share. I wonder if she notices me?
But about 69% of my brain asks me what does it matter that I'm noticing her, and blogging about her? Blogging about the Gym Girl is like blogging about the Adult Blog Girl. I know I'll never communicate in a meaningful way to either. I'll never open up and invite them into my own life, and if I did, I know I wouldn't be enough for them to stay with me.
Poor pitiful widdle me. :D
But it's on my mind, and I blog, and so here it lies.
My opening line, "Why do I notice you lately?"
In my dreams.
So that's that with him and I wish him a happy life.

And One More Other Thing.
Following up this post, I find that blogger has added me to his blogroll. In honor, I shall return the compliment. I urge people to check him out. He went through a real rough patch and now he's getting back into the dating scene, and can use all the thoughtful encouragement that you can spare. Personally, I think he's doing better than I ever would. I might have to start considering him as My Adult Hero.

Oh It's ON Now!
(Originally March 15 2006)
I got a Comment from a bloggersby, which really lit my fire. I guess I know why we blog now--! Ain't nothing like an audience to feedback the deal, although the process is therapeutic.
So since last entry, I decided that I like my job enough to know I'll do anything to keep it. And in keeping it, I can now expect a regular paycheck. SO...I returned a call from a creditor and made a payment deal. Then today I actually initiated ANOTHER call to arrange the same type of thing with another one.
That's me DOING the damn thing.
Two down and six to go. I put it in a spreadsheet and am plotting out all my payments until the end of the year. Every time I make a payment (or let them take it out of my bank) is another time that I win back my adult life. Hello responsibility. Hello manhood. Goodbye financial phobia. Goodbye economic slavery.
And then, know what else? Yesterday morning was my first time back into a gym. That's right--I'm getting rid of this insane gut. I'm fatter now than I've EVER been and I'm just not having it anymore. My friend The Grim Jester said that he understood that I was depressed but...and then he pointed to my belly (that hairy, buff little bastard). My poor belly. It's no Zelnorm commercial anymore--it's a pregnancy.
So I've got a six-week program of serious gym work. I got it from April's Muscle & Fitness, which has menus and which exact exercises to perform.
It's ON.

...more cogent. After I got it out of my system I regained the energy to come back to Nerd2Zone and ask again. Nerd #2 left, and so I'm about to get my Hero on (see pic to the left).
Nuff Said..!

Oh M G
(Originally August 30 2005)
Sit down before you click on this link. And make sure you're wearing Depends adult diapers because you not gunna make it to the bathroom, honey!
I got the above link from This Website. This woman is an amazing writer. I recommend!
In other news...I barely realized that I stopped my Bible devotions. Time to get back to that. Thankfully, I don't hate myself for lapsing, the way I would have in the old days.
