When I Need A Pick Me Up, by my friend Ryan King

As Promised To Fringes (And Ostensibly, Q)

Let me start by saying, I received my first response from Dream Girl. It came in, skipping over the sequence of e-mails I have sent her. I sent her three. She responded only to two. Notably, she did not respond to the one wherein Our Hero asks Dream Girl to meet up somewhere in NYC.

But she did respond to the last one, which was a sanitary query about an aspect of her professional life. She answered that and then let me know she was going to be leaving the area for a tour. (Yes, she's famous like that).

So I wrote her a thanks and included that I'd see her when she got back. Which means to me, "I'm going to see you. I don't know where, I don't know when. But I am going to see you again. There's just no damn way I can let you stay all casual and friendly, like every girl I ever loved in the high school of our youth (yes, we go that far back) without finding out if we've come together against all rules of logic and sanity for some higher purpose!"

I'm just sayin'.

And now, the meme--

Here’s how it works:
1. Put your iTunes on Shuffle
2. For each question, hit the next button to get your answer to the question
3. Write down that song name as your answer no matter what comes up in shuffle

Some of those answers are freaky. I'm glad you participated.

Also, even if it doesn't work out with this girl, it will work out. I don't mean to hand you platitudes and clichés, but I want you to know I am here with you as you search for your love. I have to say something comforting, right?

I like your attitude concerning the Dream Girl. I really hope everything works out for you.

I also like that "Rock the Boat" is how you were feeling. You frisky little devil you! ;)

Fringes--No, you don't have to say something comforting, but it's nice. :-)

Vi--I'm learning not to give up. I think I've done okay lately. :-) This meme works if you have a media player on the computer that is chocked with a lot of music. Set the media player on 'Random' and go to town!

Grizz--The circumstance forged the attitude. I'd become aware of this girl by random radio listening. Her name was too familiar. Although it was on the radio and impossible to be the same one, it WAS! And after I discovered that, I still thought, "Well, how cool is that." but I never thought we'd actually meet. I mean, Seth Joyner is famous and from my high school too, but I don't expect to run into him any time soon. But whammo! And SHE'S a GIRL! With this kind of confluence, I just can't drop it as easily as I have in the past. If she would have mentioned a boyfriend or something, I'd know where I stand, but it's the open-ended mystery of it all that I can't shake.

As for the meme, don't forget the answers randomly popped up on my mp3 player. That's why it's so freaky. But every time "Rock The Boat" comes on, I get in the mood. Because damn. How could you not? That is one sexy-ass song. It's crushing that shooting that video is why Aaliyah died.

I'm a little behind the times because I don't know who Dream Girl is. It sounds like you are trying with her even though she is keeping you at arms length (but that is still within reach). I've been there before. I'm a true believer that persistence can pay off. I had a chance with my dream girl when I was a sophomore in college, but I totally blew it. In that case though, I think the song Unanswered Prayers sums it up for me. I wouldn't change the results if I could, although I might have handled the situation a whole hell of a lot better.

This is Dream Girl, Scott.

Persistence. I feel a post coming on ...
