Inadvertant, I'm Sure ...

... but there's nothing quite as hurtful as when you check out the profile of a particularly attractive someone on Match.Com, and you find they've left your ethnicity out of the qualities that they want in their date. You don't want to say they're being racist -- people are allowed to be attracted to what they're attracted to. It's just ... well who wants to discover yet ANOTHER way to be rejected?

"You're a great guy, Alan, but I'm sorry. I'm just don't find black people attractive."

Wellllll, okay then. Have a great life.

Oh it's much more complicated than that: http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/what-if-there-were-not-so-many-white-people/

And you know, I don't want to FORCE anyone to be attracted to what they are not attracted to. I just don't want them to tell me in such blatant terms;

HIS DATE
Ethnicity: Latino / Hispanic, Middle Eastern, White / Caucasian

Couldn't they just leave that bit off? If Johnny Abs doesn't want me, once he looks at my picture, then he wont respond. I don't HAVE to know the reason why, do I?

I agree, Alan - you can just say "I don't think we're a match" or something like that without stating the exact reason, especially when it's something that frankly, I consider to be inappropriate. People really need to listen to Miss Manners more. When did it become necessary for people to share every innermost thought they've ever had, just by virtue of the fact that they had the thought? Some kinds of honesty are way, way overrated and it's time people start to learn the difference.

The idea that you would immediately write off an entire population of people is beyond assinine, in my opinion. You might end up meeting someone of that race that you are inexplicably drawn to ---- just ask Poor George and me! I didn't have a "policy" so to speak, but I had never found myself particularly attracted to any Asian guys. And look at me now - married to Charlie Chan! (He'd slap me if he heard me say that, and then he'd make a white joke.)

So, let's say, if George and I had met on a dating website, and my profile had said "no Asians" or something to that effect, where would I be today?

Those are my two cents.

EXCELLENT two cents. Them pennies must've been from the original copper.
